The Looks
The hexagon that flows through MKE Brewing’s Brand as much as their beer is covered with snow! It gives you a good idea that this beer was made for a Wisconsin winter. The orange and blue contrasting colors make it stand out in the store, but like all MKE regulars, the design is tastefully simple. The drawback to the design is, it is so hard not to make innuendos about the name, Plowed In.
The Smell
At first you’ll notice that the smell isn’t extremely prevalent. If you are really looking for it, you’ll notice those sweet caramel scents that diverge into some slight spicy cinnamon. It has a very inviting smell that isn’t overpowering.
The Taste
Plowed In is just an all around solid beer. You get a pleasant caramel taste, slight bitters, and it finishes with that cinnamon. It isn’t too bitter, too sweet, too anything really. I think the flavors are solid, not excessive. You get this warm sensation which I usually get from Porters and Stouts without that heavy body, and that is exactly what I look for when it is below freezing and snowing outside.
Final Thoughts
Like I said, this beer is extremely solid. I think it is a perfect all winter beer. If you are the type of beer drinker that is into the Miller Lights/Bud Lights, this would be a great beer to try for these cold Wisconsin winters. This winter ale is a great stepping stone from your pilsners, to your more full body beers. I will 100% have a stock of Plowed In sitting in my fridge all winter long.
