MKE Snake Oil Nitro Stout
This collaboration with Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co, (A Local Milwaukee Roaster) has a velvety-smooth mouthfeel and a back-end that packs quite the punch!
The Nitro part of the Nitro stout makes this one of the smoothest beers I’ve had the pleasure of drinking. I will take a Nitro over the traditional carbonation almost every time when it comes to stouts, and I’m really happy to see a lot of these microbreweries starting to nitrogenate these thicker, heavier beers!
Sitting at 8% ABV and coming in a 16 oz can, just a single can can get the tailgate started. Which isn’t a bad thing since I find this beer to be a perfect one and done drink.
You can definitely tell that this was developed with a coffee company as the aroma you get when you crack the snake oil open makes you feel like you just walked into a trendy coffee shop in Bay View.
The stout starts off with a semi-sweet flavor. The mix of that sweet flavor and smooth texture from the Nitro gives this beer an amazing start.
I keep ranting about the feel of this beer, but it really has a solid body without feeling insanely heavy; I just find it unique!
The back-end of this beer is where it gets very complex. You go from that smooth sweet flavor to a coffee and chocolate bitter, and I have yet to experience such a swing in flavors in a single beer. I found the aftertaste to be a little too bitter, and it’s the reason I think one can is the perfect amount.
All-in-all, this is going to be a great beer that I will be drinking throughout the holidays while I’m trying to avoid political conversations with my family!
